Erin & Matthew

It all started on a ski shuttle in Arrowhead Village — Beaver Creek, CO. Matthew was riding alone to Beaver Creek's main mountain, when he struck up a conversation with Erin and her family, mom Carolyn, dad Art, and sister Caitlin, who were debating Vail's contested parking fee increase. He asked Erin where she went to college, to which she replied that she wasn't in college at all, she was a lawyer.

Lucky for Matthew, Centennial is a six-pack chair, so he hopped on with the family. At the top, he asked for her number. The same parents who thought he'd make a great ski buddy for Erin's older brother, Dylan, didn't even notice.

After several more days on the mountain together with Matthew's brother, AJ, and Erin's siblings, Matthew finally asked Erin on a real date. Their third date was a powder day in Vail: heading for Blue Sky Basin, they dropped into the Back Bowls from Sourdough near Two Elk Lodge on a lowlight day, and Matthew injured his back on the rock band below, landing in the Vail emergency room. That's where Erin met his parents, Kevin and Cindy, for the first time.

Nearly three years later, in December 2025, the two skinned from Golden Peak to Two Elk Lodge before that section of the mountain opened for the season. On a bluebird day, with Holy Cross, the Gore Range, and that same rock band in view, Matthew proposed.

Since that shuttle ride, Matthew and Erin have explored the Vail Valley on skis and bikes, and ventured further to Portillo, Chile for the storm of the decade, the summit of the Grand Teton, and glacier skiing in Switzerland. Still, the Vail Valley remains their favorite place, and they can't wait to celebrate their love story there with you in July 2027.
